Published in London in 1829 by M. A. Pittman and engraved by J. Webb after British sporting artist James Barenger, the work shows Frederick standing outside his stable beneath the title “FREDERICK.”

The engraving is especially compelling as a contemporary racing portrait produced in the same year as Frederick’s Derby victory rather than a later reproduction. Soft period coloring in muted blue, ochre, green, and brown gives the scene the beautifully aged appearance that makes early sporting prints so desirable.

Presented in a substantial dark wood frame with deep molded detailing and rich, timeworn patina, this small-scale piece has tremendous decorative presence despite its compact size.

CONDITION
Beautiful antique condition consistent with age. The engraving shows expected toning and age-related coloration, while the frame retains visible surface wear, scuffs, abrasions, and losses to the finish that contribute to its authentic antique character. Piece has not been exacmined outside of its frame.

SIZE
10"L x 9"W

MAKER
Engraved by J. Style Frederick among antique hunt prints, horse portraits, and dark wood frames, or give him a moment of his own above a stack of leather-bound books on a library shelf, writing desk, or equestrian-inspired console. His diminutive scale also makes him particularly good for layering into a larger English-country gallery wall.
