Meet our founder
Martingale East was founded on a belief that luxury should be quiet, intentional, and enduring.
Rooted in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, shaped by a lifelong connection to horses and hounds, and informed by a career spanning both business leadership and creative pursuit, I founded Martingale East as a way to unite heritage, craftsmanship, and meaningful living into one cohesive world.
After years of collecting and curating objects rich with history and depth — and feeling increasingly disconnected from the hurried, transactional nature of modern shopping — I recognized a need for something different.
A space that honors discernment over abundance.
Story over immediacy.
Permanence over trend.
Each piece featured at Martingale East is personally sourced and selected with intention. I seek objects that carry narrative and character — items that feel lived with rather than staged, collected rather than consumed.
My vision for our guests is that they enjoy an experience that feels considered, inspiring, and personal. A place where form is layered with meaning, and where acquiring something beautiful becomes less about accumulation and more about connection — to craft, to history, to tradition, and to home.
I believe the spaces we inhabit should reflect not only our taste, but our values. That heritage can be lived, not displayed. And that commerce, when approached thoughtfully, can be a vehicle not only for refinement, but for good.
A portion of profits from Martingale East supports the daily care and stewardship of the horses and hounds who call our Gates River Farm home — extending the spirit of the estate beyond the objects themselves.
Martingale East is my way of sharing that vision — a house built on intention, stewardship, and purpose.
Warmly,
Colleen
