A striking late-19th-century sporting oil by Louise Little, signed and dated 1886 at the lower right. The composition depicts two hunting dogs gathered over a hare in a wooded landscape, rendered in the richly atmospheric palette associated with Victorian sporting art.

The larger white-and-chestnut hound and smaller black-and-tan dog are beautifully individualized, while the wooded background and soft light give the scene depth and an almost storybook quality. The subject is quintessentially English-country in spirit and especially well suited to a collected sporting interior.

Presented in an ornate gilt frame with warm age and patina, the painting has substantial visual presence without overwhelming a room. The horizontal format makes it particularly appealing over a console, chest, desk, or within a layered gallery wall.

STYLING SUGGESTIONS
Style this piece as the anchor of a traditional English-country vignette beneath an antique brass picture light, paired with dark polished wood, aged sporting books, silver, leather, and a small bronze hound or equestrian object. Its warm palette also works beautifully against olive, tobacco, deep navy, or paneled walls for a layered, collected look.
