Antique English Wool Needlepoint in Ornate Gilt Frame

A beautifully decorative antique wool needlepoint from England, featuring a traditional floral bouquet worked against a deep slate-blue ground. Warm shades of ochre, rust, cream, muted red, and green give the composition the wonderfully softened palette that comes only with age.

The needlework is housed in an especially substantial and highly detailed gilt frame, layered with deeply molded foliate and classical ornament. The richness of the frame gives the textile considerable presence and makes the piece feel more like a small work of European decorative art than traditional needlepoint alone. Particularly handsome styled into an English country gallery wall, above a small chest or writing desk, or layered among equestrian paintings and antique gilt frames.
