Antique Hand-Painted Sporting Hound Plate After R. K. Beck, c. 1930s–1940s

A wonderfully expressive antique sporting plate featuring two hounds in full pursuit across a softly rendered woodland landscape. The scene is entirely hand painted, with visible individual brushwork throughout the dogs, foliage, grasses and atmospheric background. The composition is based on the sporting artwork of noted American wildlife artist R. K. Beck, whose signature appears within the painted scene. An ivory porcelain ground and softly scalloped edge are finished with a delicate raised gilt border, giving the piece the polished presence of a traditional sporting cabinet plate.

CONDITION
Very good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Hand-painted decoration remains beautifully preserved and vibrant. Minor evidence of age may be present to the gilt and porcelain consistent with a piece of this period.

Measures approximately 10.75" across.

PROVENANCE
The reverse bears the handwritten inscription “Bill from Elsie ’44,” a charming personal detail that establishes the plate in private ownership by 1944. The inscription is not a manufacturer’s mark or production date.

Unmarked porcelain blank. Hand-painted sporting scene after artwork by R. K. Beck. No factory or porcelain manufacturer’s mark is present.

MATERIAL
Glazed porcelain with hand-painted decoration and gilt trim.
