Antique Hubley No. 280 Scottie & Wire Fox Terrier Cast Iron Bookend / Door Stop

An exceptionally charming antique cast iron bookend by the Hubley Manufacturing Company, featuring the celebrated No. 280 “Scotty and Terrier Friends” design. A black Scottish Terrier sits closely beside a cream, russet and black Wire Fox Terrier, both rendered in wonderfully dimensional relief with expressive faces and beautifully textured coats. The richly aged polychrome finish gives this example considerably more decorative presence than the monochromatic bronze-finished versions most often encountered. Substantial and beautifully timeworn, it is equally compelling as functional library décor, a small doorstop or a sculptural addition to a collected dog-themed interior. CONDITION
Good antique condition with authentic wear consistent with age and use, including paint loss, rubbed edges, surface abrasions, oxidation and areas of exposed cast iron, particularly along the base. The beautifully developed patina and remaining painted details give the piece remarkable character and decorative appeal.
