This antique Staffordshire fox and pheasant flat back spill vase dates to the mid–late 19th century and features a richly glazed fox standing beside a naturalistic tree trunk form. Both decorative and historically charming, it offers a timeless sporting accent for a mantel, shelf, or curated vignette.
The classic Staffordshire palette of warm russet, cream, and mossy green enhances the expressive modeling, while the flat back construction makes it ideal for display against a wall. Originally designed to hold fireplace spills, the vessel now serves beautifully as a decorative object or petite bud vase.

WHY WE LOVE THIS
This piece embodies everything we admire about traditional English sporting décor. The fox motif is unmistakably hunt-inspired, while the sculptural form gives it presence beyond a simple figurine. Flat back spill vases are increasingly sought after, particularly in intact condition, making this both a decorative treasure and a collectible antique.
STYLING SUGGESTION
Style atop a mantel layered with gilt frames and equestrian artwork, or place within a bookshelf vignette among leather-bound volumes and brass accents. It also makes a striking addition to a bar cart or hunt-themed display.
