Impressive Antique Milton Horse Show Silver Trophy Loving Cup c. 1935

A striking and unusually large antique silver metal horse show trophy loving cup with wonderful equestrian provenance, impressive scale, and beautifully aged patina.

Standing an incredible 21.5" tall, this trophy has all the presence of a true statement piece. The classic loving cup form features tall flared sides, elegant scroll handles, decorative rim detail, and a substantial tiered base. The front is engraved “Milton Horse Show Trophy,” “Donated by Sheridan’s Inc., Quincy, Mass,” and references the Saddle Pony Class with dates beginning as early as 1935.

This was a perpetual trophy, meaning it was awarded and re-engraved over time rather than given once and forgotten. Later engravings connect the piece to the Michigan All Haflinger Show, where it was awarded to an English Pleasure Champion, with reverse dates including 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004.

The result is a trophy with layered equestrian history spanning from an early Massachusetts horse show tradition to later Haflinger competition use in Michigan. The surface shows the expected age, impression, polish variation, patina, and light wear consistent with an antique and well-loved silverplate trophy, adding to its authenticity and decorative appeal.
