Pair of Estate Crystal & Sterling Silver Monogrammed Vanity Jars

A beautiful estate pair of matching vanity or dresser jars, each crafted from substantial cut crystal and finished with a sterling silver lid engraved with the period monogram “CSR.” The crystal bodies have a low, rounded form with deeply cut repeating motifs that create wonderful brilliance and dimension, while the softly domed sterling lids are decorated with delicate engraved floral and ribbon detailing surrounding the intertwined script monogram.

Pieces like these were traditionally used on dressing tables for face powder, creams, pins, jewelry and other small personal necessities. Sterling-mounted crystal vanity jars became particularly fashionable in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and surviving matched pairs are especially appealing for a collected dressing room or bath. Comparable early-20th-century sterling and cut-crystal dresser jars appear in both American and Continental examples, often retaining their original script monograms.

CONDITION
Lovely estate condition with age-appropriate surface wear, patina and minor irregularities to the sterling silver lids. Crystal presents beautifully. Any small scratches, flea bites or signs of use are consistent with the age and functional history of antique vanity pieces.
