A striking and richly detailed vignette, this piece pairs a mid-century wildlife lithograph with an exceptionally ornate, likely late Victorian solid brass frame. The composition centers on a finely rendered red fox—naturalistic, alert, and beautifully shaded—set beneath beveled glass and surrounded by an elaborate scrolling frame with a deep green inset border. The contrast between the warm brass and the saturated green gives it that unmistakable English country house feel.
The artwork is a lithograph by Glen Loates, a well-known Canadian wildlife artist (b. 1931) celebrated for his lifelike animal studies. His works were widely reproduced in the mid-20th century and remain collectible for their craftsmanship and subject matter.
The frame itself is the true showstopper—substantial in weight and presence, with intricate Rococo-style flourishes, cast in solid brass. The beveled glass adds an elevated, finished quality that catches the light beautifully.
CONDITION
Very good vintage condition. Light age-appropriate wear to the brass with a lovely patina. Minor wear to the lithograph consistent with age. Glass is intact.
