Vintage Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Pagoda Lidded Jar with Qianlong Mark

A striking blue-and-white Chinese porcelain pagoda jar, richly decorated in cobalt blue with traditional figural scenes, scrolling floral motifs and geometric borders. The architectural form is especially wonderful, with its square body, dramatically upturned pagoda rooflines and sculptural finial creating an unusual silhouette among more familiar blue-and-white porcelain forms.

The removable upper roof serves as the lid, making the piece both decorative and functional. Use it as a petite tea caddy or decorative canister, or remove the lid and style the open vessel as a small vase.

The underside bears a four-character underglaze-blue 乾隆年製 (Qianlong Nian Zhi) reign mark, translating to “Made in the Qianlong reign.” Qianlong marks have been used extensively on later Chinese decorative porcelain and should be understood here as a traditional or apocryphal reign mark rather than evidence that the piece dates to the 18th-century Qianlong period.

CONDITION
Very good pre-owned condition with minor surface and manufacturing variations characteristic of glazed porcelain. The unglazed foot shows expected discoloration and wear from use and display. Removable lid is intact and presents beautifully.

Chinese decorative porcelain bearing an apocryphal Qianlong reign mark. Likely later 20th to early 21st century rather than Qianlong period.

STYLING SUGGESTIONS
An especially good piece for adding architectural height to a collection of blue-and-white porcelain.
