Vintage Hand-Painted Porcelain Terrier Dog Figurine

Meet "Chippy", a wonderfully expressive vintage Japanese porcelain terrier figurine, hand painted in warm cream, caramel, brown and black tones. The little dog is beautifully modeled with an alert stance, perked ears, distinctive squared muzzle and jaunty upright tail. Subtle crazing to the glaze gives the piece exactly the sort of character we love in older porcelain, while the hand-painted shading creates surprising depth for its petite scale.

Small vintage dog figures like this are especially charming tucked into a collected bookcase, atop a stack of books, or incorporated into a traditional English country vignette. The terrier subject makes this one particularly at home among sporting, equestrian and hunt-inspired pieces.
